Project Angel Hugs Project Angel Hugs

Project Angel Hugs ministers to the emotional needs of children with cancer and their families.

Project Angel Hugs is a Christ-centered organization ministering to youth touched by cancer and their families: encouraging them through prayer, words, gifts, and festivities; harnessing the abundant energy from healthy youth to accomplish work generated by this project while instilling in them a passion for volunteering. Toy Drive!

We will again be holding our Annual Christmas Toy Drive to receive toy donations for children in our program. Our "Angel-Elves" will be collecting toys along the Plymouth AND Kiel parade routes. The Plymouth Christmas Parade will be November 28 and the Kiel Christmas Parade is scheduled for November 29. Due to the immune suppressed condition of many of our children, we can only collect New unwrapped toys in the original packaging.

15th Anniversary Open House - November 28

Join us for a celebration from 5:00 - 9:00 pm. Enjoy refreshments and snacks. While you visit, have some fun making a card or craft for the children in our program. Spend some time helping out our little warriors before the Plymouth Christmas Parade. Hey Kids! Please consider helping Project Angel Hugs collect and stack toys on the parade route. We are also looking for adults to walk along and pass out "Save the Date" cards for our 2015 Be An Angel Benefit.

Valentine's Help Needed

Project Angel Hugs will be preparing over 250 Valentine's Day packets for children touched by cancer. Please help us out by sending store purchased, computer generated, and/or handmade Valentines for these very special kids. We ask that you please sign the card and include your city and state. You do not need an envelope. Please send or drop off at our office (307 E. Mill Street, Suite 1, Plymouth, WI 53073) by January 17. Last year, we sent out over 33,000 Valentines! With your help, we are hoping to send out even more!

Donations

Donations are gladly welcome. Because these items will be given to children with suppressed immune systems, it is a requirement that the items must be NEW condition. See our wish list for ideas. Your generosity is appreciated!

How it Started

(Told by founder Char Jensema-Grider)

In my daughter Vanessa’s almost eight years of life, she showed courage, love, compassion, humor, strength, generosity, and most of all faith. So much of her precious life was spent hospitalized, receiving chemotherapy and then later a bone marrow transplant. We found out the sad news in June of 2001, that her cancer again had returned. Her decision was no more treatment. With great spirit and belief in God, she spent the next 7 weeks, having a wonderful summer swimming in her new pool we were able to set up for her, and spending time with her puppy, Buddy. In August of the same year, Vanessa passed onto her new life with the Lord. At that time I learned that God can give you the strength to whisper in your daughter’s ear, "It’s okay…you can go now…I’ll always love you."

Due to her long hospital stays, we learned how to capture a moment here and there and have some fun. Whether doing a craft project, having pizza with other families, receiving mail, or just spending time out of our room doing whatever to make a very difficult situation more bearable. God bless.

Kids with Cancer Get Angel Hugs

Days up on the cancer floor can seem endless. Waiting for tests to be done, waiting for test results to come back, waiting for blood counts to go up, waiting for chemo, waiting for tummy meds, waiting for our life to begin again. Project Angel Hugs fills the void in these children’s lives by hosting parties in the cancer unit or by sending mail to the children. We encourage them to be a kid...even for just a moment.

We Need You

We can't help these children without your support. Won’t you help us to make life a little brighter for these precious children and their families. Feel free to call us for volunteer opportunities or group activities. Volunteers are welcome Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 12 noon to 4:30. We will be happy to schedule a private group activity for your organization. Prayers, volunteers and donations are always welcome! Ladies, book an evening to spend time with your friends while you reach out to kids touched by cancer at the same time! Project Angel Hugs is looking for groups to help. Contact us to learn more!
